I worked with Ronan in Hastings many years ago and we were housemates in a farm cottage in Fairlight for a while. He was my husband's trainee and friend and they saw each other fairly often in Court. I saw Ronan last year in the court tea rooms at Hastings and was delighted to catch up with him. He hadn't changed at all. When John and I heard that Ronan had passed away we were deeply shocked and so sad for him as our friend but also for his family. Such a lovely man. My memories of Ronan are all good and I dedicate this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson with love and deepest condolences to his family. "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded". Patricia Stebbing
